by Carlos Cherena (Illustrator), Daniel Perez (Author)
Badaboom Badabiim is the first children's book in a trilogy about the creation of the drum. It begins deep in the jungle high up on a mountain where an old alchemist lives. He finds himself lonely and decides to make a friend, a drum. He names his new friend Tumba. New to this world Tumba knows only how to ask questions. When the old alchemist grows tired of answering so many question he creates Segundo, a drum with the power of the answer. The drums talk to one another and learn how they were created; they wish to speak freely. They begin to create more drums in search of the right balance. The story teaches themes of harmony, creative inventiveness, call and response, and geography. The story is written in both English and Spanish as well as the audio component. By the end of the story the child hears a full composition of the drums creating a full scale Afro-Cuban Rumba. Lets make learning fun, Badaboom Badabiim
