Nightmares are otherworldly equine-like creatures with sleek obsidian-black hides and eyes like glowing rubies. They belch fire and smoke when angry or hungry. Also known as a hell-horse, these evil mounts are often used by powerful undead and demons to carry them through the sky, leaving trails of sulfurous smoke in their wake.

In recent months, a nightmare has been spotted coming and going from an old tower believed to be inhabited by a malevolent wizard. How or when the conjuror acquired the nightmare's services is unknown, but what is known is that the wizard has been targeting enemies and rivals to claim their magic and wealth. The wizard’s list of enemies is long and includes many high-ranking and influential folk, including the local lord who will pay handsomely to have the wizard and his mount dealt with.
