Neal Casal’s band, Circles Around The Sun, completed recording a new studio album the week prior to his passing. The album’s producer Jim Scott will see the recording through to its completion with plans being made for its release in early 2020. CATS had previously announced tour dates in October and December, while plans were in the works for the band’s busiest year yet in 2020. Casal left behind specific wishes for Circles Around The Sun to continue in his absence. The surviving members, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne and drummer Mark Levy, have decided to honor that request and move forward together. A new guitar player will be announced shortly and all 2019 tour dates will go on as scheduled.
Circles Around The Sun, often shortened to CATS by the band’s fans, has also added eight tour dates in October and December. It’s already been the busiest year yet for the ensemble who initially formed solely to record set break music for The Grateful Dead’s “Fare Thee Well” concerts in 2015. Based on the response to those recordings, however, they’ve quickly grown into something bigger than ever imagined. In October, they’ll make their debut in Seattle and Portland, while returning to California for headline shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento. They’ll close out 2019 and ring in 2020 with a run of Colorado dates in December, including The Gothic Theatre in Denver and New Year’s Eve at Ivy Ballroom in Buena Vista.
