4 CD Box Set celebrating the films of director Peter Bogdanovich. Plus soundtrack highlights from the directors who inspired him: Orson Welles and John Ford. Peter Bogdanovich's early films are regarded as integral to what would become known as the Hollywood Renaissance, New Hollywood or the American New Wave. Thrillingly modern, yet full of the spirit of classical American cinema. His documentary, 'Directed by John Ford', and book of interviews, 'This is Orson Welles', evidence the influence of those directorial giants on Peter and reveal his own deep love of the craft of film-making. Discs one and two comprise the soundtracks of Peter's two eloquent film essays in Americana; 'The Last Picture Show' (1971) and 'Paper Moon' (1973), alongside a programme of vintage 78rpm recordings of Cole Porter songs featured in his musical, 'At Long Last Love' (1975). Discs three and four are devoted to music from the masterpieces of Orson Welles and John Ford that fired Peter's imagination; 'Citizen Kane', 'The Magnificent Ambersons', 'A Touch of Evil' and 'The Searchers'. Set in a small Texan town between November 1951 to October 1952, and made in black and white at Welles' suggestion, 'The Last Picture Show' - nominated for eight Academy Awards and winning two - is regarded as one of the most poetic American films of the era. 'Paper Moon', another black and white feature, and another commercial and critical success, is an ingenious reinvention of the classic American road movie. It won a best supporting actress Oscar for 10 year-old Tatum O'Neal.
