Alrik and his family eventually end up in Chicago Heights where he becomes the Head Hammer Man at Columbia Steel. They get themselves a house and his grandchildren describe Alrik as a loving but stern family man who never mentions a word about the strike, Horndal, or even Sweden to anyone. He refuses to even visit Sweden but has the picture of Hjalmar Branting, Swedish leader of the Social Democrats, on the wall in his bedroom until he died in 1970.
