Author Biography

Marie Lafrance studied graphic arts, etching, and worked as a printmaker before going on to illustrate children's books. Over her career she's earned three nominations for the Governor General's Literary Award, and she recently received the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award for "A Hen for Izzy Pippik." She resides in Montreal. Alan Mills was a folksinger, writer, and actor who released several albums on Folkways Records. His performance at the 1960 Newport Folk Festival was preserved on a Vanguard recording. He also found lasting success as a singer with the CBC radio show Folk Songs for Young Folk, which ran from 1947-59. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1974. Lionel Daunais was a distinguished baritone, composer, and lyricist. His numerous awards include the Canadian Music Council Medal, the Calixa-Lavallée Music Award, and a posthumous Denise-Pelletier Award. In 2006, he was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. As a member of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Gilles Vigneault is hailed as one of Canada's most influential music figures of the 20th century, especially as a champion Québécois folksinger. His work often evokes his great love of nature and the passion he has for his hometown of Natashquan, a remote, windswept village on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. He has received numerous distinctions including the Grand prix du disque de l'Académie Charles-Cros in France and the Médaille Vermeil offered by the City of Paris. He lives in Montreal
