Once backlit the crystals reveal remarkable colour zoning, characteristically with a thick forest green outer skin, then a bright lemon band surrounding an inner core of gemmy purple mauve. Many specimens also display bright purple daylight fluorescence. It’s a phenomenon well known to mineral collectors as daylight fluorescence, making it an extra special experience for any experienced collector.
