On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.
With the fierce and ambitious Astrid and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
Now, through cutting-edge visual effects, DeBlois transforms his beloved animated saga into a breathtaking live-action spectacle, bringing the epic adventures of Hiccup and Toothless to life with jaw-dropping realism as they discover the true meaning of friendship, courage and destiny.
Two-time Academy Award® nominee John Powell also returns to revisit his exhilarating score for the original film, for which he received his first Oscar® nomination, with themes familiar and new as part of his latest orchestral masterwork.
“John Powell is the first person I called about doing HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON as a live action movie,” says DeBlois. “The music that John creates is iconic ... What he does with the melodies he creates are like narrative harmonies to what's front and present in the story."
“This is a big film with a joy of life and a joy of flying and heartbreak of families and the redemption of knowing that one person who's determined can change everything,” says Powell. “We go to the cinema to enjoy the pleasures of imagination and invention, the rich colors in the visuals, in the sound and in the music.”
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 3xLP features design direction for Mondo by Nolan Fleming, with product design by Janie Peacock and vinyl mastering by Patricia Sullivan at Bernie Grundman Mastering.
