Lolita Lorenzo is the design brainchild of Carol Muthiga. A Kenyan-American artist and designer, Muthiga is inspired by rich color palates, vibrant patterns found in the textile markets of her birth country, numerology, naturally occurring geometry, and modern fashion houses like Chanel and Vogue. Named for her daughters, Lolita Lorenzo collages often depict versions of an “intergalactic Afrofuturistic time-traveling woman warrior.” Modern-day heroines and Black cultural icons are also predominantly featured in her works. This radically empowering image combines a cornucopia of textiles to create a fully immersive ambiance. At puzzle size, the original moiré of the printed matter incorporated in her collage is visible.
