In January 2020, Kevin Morby sat in the basement of his family home, perusing and plucking through old family photos. Only a few hours prior, his father had collapsed and was taken to the hospital. Among the photos, Morby pulled out a special one in particular: a photo of his father when he was younger, posed shirtless on a lawn.

“In the photo he looks young and full of confidence, puffing his chest out at the camera as if he were looking for a fight,” Morby shared. The image stuck with him as thoughts of family, time, history, fear, hope, resiliency and more swirled his mind. A trip to Memphis and a stay at the Peabody Hotel later, This Is A Photograph was born through his rudimentary set-up.

The record is produced by Sam Cohen, who worked with Morby on Singing Saw and Oh My God, with contributions from Morby's longtime friends and collaborators. The VMP exclusive variant of Kevin Morby's seventh studio album comes on 1LP standard weight, 12 inch Tri-Color Gold, Red and Orange vinyl.
