Lunar meteorite NWA 11182 is a rare and scientifically valuable specimen classified as a feldspathic breccia, specifically a regolith breccia. Discovered in Northwest Africa in 2017, it has a total known weight of approximately 181 grams.

This meteorite originated from the Moon’s highlands and was ejected by an ancient impact event before landing on Earth. Its composition is dominated by plagioclase feldspar (anorthite), with smaller amounts of pyroxene and olivine, giving it a light-colored appearance speckled with gray, white, and black clasts.

As a breccia, NWA 11182 is composed of fused fragments of older lunar rocks, preserving a record of the Moon’s surface processes. Its feldspathic makeup suggests that it comes from the Moon’s far side or highland regions, rather than the basaltic plains known as the maria. This makes it particularly useful for studying the ancient lunar crust and understanding the history of impacts and regolith evolution on the Moon.
