The Evolve box contains these items and an info card:

• Steel Date Nail: The number on this nail reflects the year it was used. “Date nails” once marked the age of every railroad tie and pole across the country. But this entire system evolved first to stencils, and now to digital databases. What endures is not the nail itself, but the idea it carried forward.
• Golden Gate Bridge Segment: This strand of steel once helped suspend the deck of the Golden Gate Bridge through decades of wind, fog, and salt air. After forty years, corrosion and stress forced engineers to replace it with stronger, better-protected steel ropes. The bridge endures because its parts evolve.
• Alligator Tooth: Sharp and crushing, this tooth was one of thousands an alligator will cycle through in its lifetime. As one wears down or breaks, another grows in to take its place, the same process that replaced our own childhood teeth. All living things evolve through growth and renewal.
