by J. Lifeson (Author)
Rush was a Canadian rock group, comprising Geddy Lee (bass, vocals, keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitars), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion). Formed in Willowdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during 1968, the band went through several lineups until arriving at its longest and classic one when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, a fortnight before the group's first tour of the US.
Rush was known for its musicianship, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, and philosophy. The band's musical style changed several times over the years, from a blues-inspired hard rock beginning, moving into progressive rock, including a period of heavy use of synthesizers. Rush returned to a guitar-driven hard rock sound during the early '90s, which they stuck with for the rest of their career. Rush announced that they were stopping large-scale touring at the end of 2015 then following nearly 3 years of an uncertain future, Lifeson reluctantly stated in January 2018 that they weren't going to continue.
