The Genesis Nomad, or Sega Nomad as it was known in North America, was a handheld game device released by Sega in October 1995. The Sega Nomad is a handheld version of the Genesis (Mega Drive outside of North America) home video game console. Nomad was the last handheld console made by Sega, and it was based on the Mega Jet, a portable version of the home console developed for use on airline flights in Japan. It also included a video out so it could be connected to a TV. The Nomad's brief existence can be attributed to its late Genesis era release. It uses regional lockout and was only available in the North American market. Due to Sega's focus on the Sega Saturn, the Nomad was neglected and was not compatible with a number of Genesis add-ons including the Power Base Converter, Sega CD, or Sega 32X. The Nomad was a commercial flop despite selling almost a million copies.
