The Sound were a seminal English post-punk band formed in South London in 1979 by lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Adrian Borland, alongside drummer Mike Dudley, bassist Graham Bailey, and keyboardist Benita "Bi" Marshall. Though their debut album Jeopardy is now widely recognized as a cornerstone of the post-punk movement, the band struggled to achieve commercial success on par with their peers, ultimately disbanding in 1988. Despite this, The Sound's music has endured, earning a devoted cult following among fans of post-punk and alternative music. After the uncompromising sonic direction of their 1982 album All Fall Down, 1984's Shock of Daylight was celebrated as a triumphant return to form. The EP features some of the band's most beloved material, including the singles "Counting the Days" and "Golden Soldiers."
