Confirmed 4-Player PS2 Games (via Multitap or Native Support)
These titles explicitly list 1-4 player support or are recommended for 4-player sessions in forums and lists:
- ATV Offroad Fury (and sequels 2, 3, 4): Racing with off-road chaos.
- Crash Nitro Kart: Kart racer similar to Mario Kart, highly praised for multiplayer.
- TimeSplitters 2 (and TimeSplitters, Future Perfect): Fast-paced FPS with excellent 4-player modes.
- Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: Action-RPG with up to 4-player co-op.
- Tekken Tag Tournament: Tag-team fighting with 4-player support via team modes.
- Dead or Alive 2: Fighting game compatible with Multitap.
- Digimon Rumble Arena 2: Arena brawler for 4 players.
- Street Fighter EX 3: 4-player in 2v2 mode.
Additional Popular Recommendations
Community favorites from YouTube lists and forums that support 4 players (co-op or versus):
- Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks: Co-op beat 'em up (extendable to 4 via rotations).
- Twisted Metal: Black: Vehicular combat.
- X-Men Legends: Mutant team-based action (up to 4-player co-op).
- WWE SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain: Wrestling with multiplayer matches.
- FIFA 2003 (and similar sports titles): Soccer with 4-player support.
Note: Many require the official PS2 Multitap (SCPH-10090 or SCPH-70120, depending on console model) for 4 controllers; some allow controller sharing or turns for fewer ports. Check game manuals for exact modes, as support varies between local versus, co-op, or split-screen. Sources like Co-Optimus list more co-op specifics but focus less on competitive 4-player.
