Spring bursts forth, and with it, nature awakens. Meadows bloom, the rain makes the grass grow, and the air is filled with life. It’s time to plant, water, and prepare the soil for summer. But in this garden, only the one who best coordinates their actions will see their flowers bloom. Will you be the one to bring life to the most lush and vibrant corner?
Spring is a strategic duel for 2 players, ages 8 and up, with quick games full of meaningful decisions. The game unfolds in two clearly distinct phases, each presenting different challenges and requiring players to adapt their strategies accordingly. At the end of the second phase, the player with the most points wins.
In the first phase, both players cooperatively build a shared garden by taking turns placing cards so that they partially overlap. When a watering can falls on a flower of your color, that flower is considered bloomed. The goal in this phase is to create as many gardens as possible—defined as different groups of at least two orthogonally connected spaces of your own color. Players must balance offensive and defensive placement to hinder the growth of their opponent’s groups. In addition to cards, players can use fences to define areas.
In the second phase, the shared garden is dismantled, and each player builds a personal one. Taking turns, players draft cards from the shared space to form their individual garden. The goal now changes: create the largest possible garden, meaning a single group of orthogonally connected spaces of your color. The game rewards both long-term planning and the ability to adapt quickly.
Designed by María and Enrique Blasco, and illustrated with the gentle and vibrant tone that spring deserves, Spring is part of the 4 Seasons series, a collection of abstract games for two players inspired by the seasons. Like Winter and Autumn, Spring is part of the Devir Pocket collection: small in size and rules, but big in experience and replayability. Perfect to take anywhere and affordable for everyone. Let the blooming begin!
