Vinyl Me Please exclusive 180g Yellow Vinyl, Limited to 1000 Foil-stamped and Numbered copies. First ever colored edition.
Sunshine of Your Love commemorates Ella Fitzgerald’s 1968 live show within the decorated, resounding walls of the Venetian Room at The Fairmont San Francisco hotel.
Ernie Hecksher’s Big Band provided the emphatic instrumentation to Fitzgerald’s first six tracks, while Tommy Flanagan’s trio was tapped for the last half of the album’s accompaniment. Beginning with buoyancy and redirecting listeners back in time to the Venetian Room, Sunshine of Your Love begins with a lively, booming delivery of The Beatles’ “Hey Jude.” The eponymous “Sunshine of Your Love” carries Fitzgerald’s fervent, throaty belts and untangles her vibrato across octaves. The album freely slides into a low-tempo atmosphere, complemented by Fitzgerald’s lulling and iconic scatting. Fitzgerald divulges listeners with a celebrated and mesmerizing performance.
Despite her rugged beginnings, Ella Fitzgerald’s resiliency paid off, and the memories of these transformative years took shape in her emotional shows. Following her first live performance as part of a competition in 1934, the legend recalled her spell-binding experience and said, “Once up there, I felt the acceptance and love from my audience. I knew I wanted to sing before people the rest of my life.” Sunshine of Your Love calls back to the jazz vocalist's home on the stage.
