The Mazda RX-7 quickly became a hit with automotive fans when it was introduced in the mid-1970's. The Mazda Savanna RX-7 made its debut in 1978, and the car featured sleek lines on its lightweight monocoque body with low-profile nose and retractable headlights. The two-rotor rotary engine was capable of 130hp, and the front midship layout gave the car optimal weight distribution, which was one of the secrets to its exemplary handling. In 1980, Mazda gave the RX-7 a minor model change, making the SE Limited model the most luxurious of the four types on offer. Creature comforts such as the sunroof and bucket type leather seats were joined by aluminum wheels, while reducing weight of the car by over 30 kilograms and refining its nose further improved fuel efficiency. This car spawned a legion of rotary engine fans and is an integral part of Mazda's history.
