The Chicks - The Chicks - The Sound Of The Chicks [Vinyl]
Barcode: 90771557414Recorded shortly after their tour with The Pretty Things, the Donaldson sisters made The Chicks a household name in New Zealand circa 66. Uptempo effervescent 60s kiwi girl group pop, with the kind of stunning harmonies that could only come from sisters. Recorded in single takes to two track for the Viking label when Judy was 16 and Sue was just 14, yet they manage to capture a true fauxtown sound. NZs answer to Spectors girls, reissued for the first time and pressed on colored vinyl!
Right from the time The Chicks hatched out of New Zealands fertile rocknroll scene, Judy and Sue Donaldson were two of the biggest pop stars of the 60s. Sporting matching mod hairdos and pop art outfits, the girls were unique because they not only sang, but could dance up a storm. Their mother was musical and taught the girls to sing harmonies and their neighbor Kevin Borich, future member of one of New Zealands wildest combos, The La De Das, taught the girls how to play guitar while they sang.
The Chicks were signed to Viking in 1965 and promptly sent to the recording studio where the girls were given Chubby Checkers Hucklebuck, and then Heart Of Stone. Recordings were done on only two tracks, meaning they had to get things right quickly. Music was already chosen and rehearsed with a young band by musical director and pianist Mike Perjanik, who also gave The Chicks their name. The girls were just 14 and 16 when Hucklebuck shot up the charts to #1, so they were quickly hustled back into the studio to record their first album The Sound Of The Chicks.1. Heart Of Stone 2. You Dont Talk About Love 3. Hucklebuck 4. Ticket To Ride 5. I Dont Want To Spoil The Party 6. The Birds And The Bees 7. Cant You Hear My Heart Beat 8. I Feel Fine 9. Tobacco Road 10. I Want You To Be My Boy 11. Looking For The Right Guy 12. Goodnight Baby
