Description
Welcome to the future that never quite arrived...
Percolating circuits, pumping valves and delirious Space-Age Pop!
Recorded in New York City in 1969, 'The Happy Moog' is the great 'lost' Jean Jacques Perrey album.
Waxed for the budget Pickwick Records label, the LP was the creation of Moog virtuoso Perrey and renowned jazz percussionist Harry Breuer (though Jean Jacques could not be credited at the time, as he was under contract to Vanguard Records). Kindled by friendship and a fevered desire to explore, 'The Happy Moog' offers a delightful melange of crypto-Ragtime melodies, berserk tape-manipulation interruptions and Technicolor absurdist triumphs.
Originally imagined as a children's LP, the final result held a timeless reverie of surreal optimism, futuristic soundscapes and sophisticated arrangements. Cut in a purpose-built 4-track studio with rhythms programmed on the then state-of-the-art Rhythm Ace drum machine, 'The Happy Moog' is a quasi-psychedelic explosion of Moog mayhem and retro-futurism.
The entire LP has been remastered in 2025 and is sounding better than ever before. Comes with an enclosed exclusive CD that includes the full album plus, as bonus tracks, an entirely unreleased album, previously unreleased charming vintage commercials recorded by Perrey in 1970 and an extended interview segment!
Moogs at eleven, set for blast-off into Space-Age Synth Heaven!
