Crypt of the Wizard is proud to present Spife - The Wizard in the Field on vinyl and digital formats. "Follow the wizard, as he makes his way through the fields wrought with corruption. In order to cleanse the ground, he has to concoct a ritual of regrowth." The ever mercurial and prolific Spife makes his debut on the Crypt of the Wizard label with a record entitled The Wizard in the Field - a fittingly thaumaturgic meeting of minds. Rooted in Dungeon Synth and fantasy Spife has fast grown in a variety of different directions more-or-less simultaneously resulting in a restless flurry of excellent releases most destined to remain as digital relics as audiences do their damndest to keep up. We felt it was this release in particular that should be forged into a more durable format, although it could so easily have been several others. The Wizard in the Field catches Spife at an important transition, leaning towards a sound somewhere closer to a frenzied progressive neo-folk drenched in poetic alchemical themes and lyrics than other recent releases. An incredibly accomplished sounding record in both is composition, and instrumentation, as well as it's unabashed and confident pronouncement of an unnameable approach to genre. Hard to believe this is the product of just one human being. With his seemingly super human music making capacities It's possible there is more to Spife than meets the eye.
