by Bill Brown (Author)
Working As A Film Composer is an inside look at what it is like working in the industry today. It's a journey through the career defining moments of an award-winning Hollywood composer with insightful perspectives from industry professionals and action steps and advice from some of today's top composers including: Hans Zimmer, Christopher Lennertz, Terence Blanchard, Geoff Zanelli, Steve Mazzaro, Kurt Farquhar, Tina Guo, Austin Wintory and more.
This book provides a comprehensive guide to the world of composing for film and media, with behind the scenes insights into getting started, demystifying and organizing the creative process, building successful relationships, mastering the business, optimizing your social media, understanding how management really works, using intuition and intentionality, and finding overall balance through teamwork. It's a unique look inside the process with career-defining stories, advice and action steps from the author and a wide range of top composers working today in the continually evolving world of TV, Films and Games. 'Working As a Film Composer' offers a deeper understanding of composing for media, with valuable resources to help create and sustain a successful career in the industry today.
"This book is a required reading for anyone serious about professionally scoring for film, TV, and video games. Bill Brown has pulled back the curtain on the art form of film and video game scoring in a way no other book has. It's a true insider's look at the craft and business of media scoring, and Bill is extremely generous to share that with us. This book is also chock full of actionable steps readers can immediately apply to their music and careers. It's far more than a technical manual on how to compose for the screen. Rather, Bill works his own personal journey of success into each chapter, which aspiring composers can model. Film, TV, and video games are competitive industries, and Bill lights the path for the reader."
Sean McMahon, Chair, Film Scoring Berklee College of Music
